Documentation for Template:is-noun. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

This is the template to use for the headword of all Icelandic common nouns. This template automatically adds pages to Category:Icelandic nouns, as well as gender-specific categories such as Category:Icelandic feminine nouns.

This template contains the necessary meta-data to allow users who are using accelerated editing to create any grammatical forms semi-automatically.

Usage

[edit]

Use it directly under the "part of speech" header (e.g. for hestur (horse)):

==Icelandic==

===Noun===
{{is-noun|m}}

# [[horse]]

Parameters

[edit]

This template can take various parameters, both numbered and named. See m:Help:Template for help with templates and parameters in general.

|1=
Specifies the gender and all other properties necessary to fully decline the word. The format is identical to {{is-ndecl}}; see there, and examples below.
|dim=
Specifies the diminutive form(s) of the noun.
|f=, |m=
Specifies the equivalent noun of the other gender, for words which differ depending on the natural gender of the referent. These are used especially with nouns denoting professions.
|nolinkhead=1
Don't autolink individual words in multiword expressions.
|head=, |head2=, ...
Explicitly specify the head(s). Only needed in multiword expressions when the default autolinking doesn't work right, and even then rarely needed; prefer the angle-bracket syntax with explicit links in |1=.
