This template contains the necessary meta-data to allow users who are using accelerated editing to create any grammatical forms semi-automatically.

Usage

This template is designed for use with both regular and irregular Hungarian adjectives.

{{{1}}} = comparative suffix. If the adjective is not comparable, this parameter should be set to "-".

Regular adjectives

For regular adjectives, this template takes one parameter. The template calls the PAGENAME for the positive form and uses this as the base for the comparative and other forms.

Examples:

• előkelő ('elegant'; adds -bb to a vowel termination)

  • előkelő (comparative előkelőbb, superlative legelőkelőbb, exaggerated legeslegelőkelőbb)

• magas ('tall'; adds -abb to a consonant termination)

  • magas (comparative magasabb, superlative legmagasabb, exaggerated legeslegmagasabb)

• éles ('sharp'; adds -ebb to a consonant termination)

  {{hu-adj|ebb}}

  • éles (comparative élesebb, superlative legélesebb, exaggerated legeslegélesebb)

In cases where there is a vowel shift, the comparative must be added in full, using comp= (comparative= may also be used).

Examples:

• buta ('stupid'; final vowel shifts from a to á)

• fekete ('black'; final vowel shifts from e to é)

Irregular adjectives

For irregular adjectives, this template uses the comp= and sup= options, as needed. (comparative=, super=, and superlative= may also be used)

Examples:

• nagy ('big'; adds -obb to a consonant termination)

• hosszú ('long'; final vowel changes)

• szép ('beautiful'; vowel shifts and final consonant is dropped)

  • szép (comparative szebb, superlative legszebb, exaggerated legeslegszebb)

• felső ('top'; superlative drops suffix)

  • felső (comparative felsőbb, superlative legfelső, exaggerated legeslegfelső)

Adjectives with two forms for the comparative and/or the superlative

For adjectives with an additional form for the comparative and/or the superlative, this template uses the comp2= and sup2= options as needed. Both require the full form to be entered. These parameters can be combined with the normal suffix as the first parameter (if the regular form is to be given first) or the comp parameter (if the irregular form is to be given first, as in the example below).

Example:

• régi ('old'; can be either régebbi or [less commonly] régibb in the comparative and legrégebbi or [less commonly] legrégibb in the superative) – with the irregular forms first

  • régi (comparative régebbi or régibb, superlative legrégebbi or legrégibb)

Non-comparable adjectives

For adjectives without comparative forms, use 1=-.

Examples:

• angol ('English')

  • angol (not comparable)

Adjectives that are not generally comparable

For such adjectives, use 1=- and enter the comparative ending in the second parameter.

Example:

• acélkék (‘steel blue’)

  {{hu-adj|-|ebb}}

  • acélkék (not generally comparable, comparative acélkékebb, superlative legacélkékebb)

If the word-final vowel is modified (e.g. in the case of adjectives ending in -a or -e), the following template may be used:

TemplateData for hu-adj

This is the headword-line template for Hungarian adjectives (both regular and irregular). Either of the suffix and comparative form is mandatory, all other fields are optional.
