This template generates the ===Pronunciation=== section of a Hunsrik term, including the phonemic pronunciation and rhymes, as well as (if manually specified) audio files and homophones.

Usage

[edit]

Quick reference

[edit]
Page Example Comment
Aarveter {{hrx-pr}} In some cases, no parameters are needed.
Forhang {{hrx-pr|Fór#háng}} If the automatically generated pronunciation is incorrect, use a respelling to indicate the correct pronunciation (see below)
  • IPA(key): /ˈfɔaˌhaŋ/
  • Rhymes: -aŋ
  • Syllabification: For‧hang
portugiesisch {{hrx-pr|por.tugiesisch,bor.tugiesisch}} Multiple comma-separated respellings can be given.
  • IPA(key): /pʰortuˈkiːsiʃ/, /portuˈkiːsiʃ/
  • Rhymes: -iːsiʃ
  • Syllabification: por‧tu‧gie‧sisch
Fähichkeed {{hrx-pr|Fähich#keed|Fähich#keid<q:Fähichkeid>}} Multiple respellings can also be given as separate parameters, or comma-separated and separate-parameter respellings can be combined. Comma-separated respellings are displayed comma-separated on the same line, while separate-parameter respellings are displayed on separate lines. Use the inline modifier syntax to add properties of specific respellings.
  • IPA(key): /ˈfɛːiçˌkʰeːt/
    • Rhymes: -eːt
    • Syllabification: Fäh‧ich‧keed
  • IPA(key): (Fähichkeid) /ˈfɛːiçˌkʰaɪ̯t/
Aadler {{hrx-pr|+<audio:Hrx-Aadler.ogg>}} Here we give an audio pronunciation. No special respelling is needed so we use +.
  • IPA(key): /ˈɔːtla/
  • Audio:(file)
  • Rhymes: -ɔːtla
  • Syllabification: Aad‧ler

Respellings

[edit]

This template works with the orthography used by Boll in his dictionary (see {{R:hrx:Boll}}). The orthography is mostly phonemic, but respellings are often be needed to generate the correct pronunciation. In most cases, these respellings will involve the placement of stress and morpheme boundaries in compounds.

Boundaries

[edit]

The symbol # can be used to force a morpheme boundary within a word in order to show phonemes that otherwise only appear word-initially or finally.

  • Fähichkeed: without a respelling the generated pronunciation would be /ˈfɛːiçˌkeːt/, as aspirated stops only appear word-initially by default. In order to force an aspirated stop in the suffix -keed, we must use the respelling Fähich#keed, which yields /ˈfɛːiçˌkʰeːt/.
  • Forhang: without a respelling the generated pronunciation would be /ˈfɔrhaŋ/, because the sequence or usually represents /ɔ(r)/ when stressed. In order to force the vocalization of /r/, we write Fór#háng, which yields /ˈfɔaˌhaŋ/ (note that a stress mark is required in the first syllable too).

A dot . can be used to mark other syllable boundaries that can't be handled automatically.

  • Johannes: in order to generate the pronunciation /joˈhanəs/ we need the respelling Jo.hánnes. In this case, the dot is needed because vowel + h sequences are treated as long vowels by default.

Vowels and stress

[edit]

The template will automatically add stress marks to syllables with orthographic long vowels (double vowels and vowel + h combinations) and diphthongs (except non-native diphthongs respelled with ĭ and ŭ, see below). However, if the stress falls in a syllable with an orthographic short vowel, the word has to be respelled with an acute accent (in order to mark ä as stressed, write à instead). If a word has no long vowels and a manual respelling is not provided, the first syllable will get the stress mark automatically. In words containing more than one stress mark, all but the first are automatically converted to secondary stress marks.

  • Disput: we have to use the respelling Dispút, which yields /tiʃˈpuːt/. Note that orthographically short but phonemically long vowels are handled automatically.
  • wäre: no respelling is needed, the first vowel gets stressed and lengthened automatically: /ˈvɛːrə/.
  • Gescherrspieler: we use the respelling Geschérr#spieler to generate /kəˈʃɛrˌʃpiːlɐ/. We only need to add an acute accent to the first component, as the second one contains an orthographically long vowel.
  • Pnëu, Kui: some falling diphthongs occur only in a few borrowings. Use ĭ and ŭ to respell them. For the previous examples, the respellings would be Pneŭ and Kuĭ.

Parameters

[edit]

The allowed parameters are as follows:

|1=, |2=, ...
Specify a line of pronunciation; see above.
|rhyme=
Specify one or more comma-separated rhymes that apply to all pronunciations and are displayed below all of them, without additional indentation. Inline modifiers can be specified, as for <rhyme:...>. Use this when there are multiple lines of pronunciations, to avoid additional indentation. If needed, use |rhyme=- to hide the rhymes section.
|hmp=
Specify one or more comma-separated homophones that apply to all pronunciations and are displayed below all of them, without additional indentation. Inline modifiers can be specified, as for <hmp:...>. Use this when there are multiple lines of pronunciations, to avoid additional indentation.
|audio=, |audio2=, ...
Specify one or more audio files that apply to all pronunciations and are displayed below all of them, without additional indentation. Inline modifiers can be specified, as for <audio:...>. (You cannot specify multiple comma-separated audio files in a single parameter, as audio filenames sometimes have embedded commas in them not followed by a space.) Use this when there are multiple lines of pronunciations, to avoid additional indentation.
|pagename=
Explicitly specify the pagename, for testing purposes and for use on documentation pages.
