Use {{grc-noun}}
and {{grc-proper noun}}
to generate headword lines for Ancient Greek nouns and proper nouns. Module:grc-headword and Module:headword process the parameters and create the displayed text. Both templates use the same template function, so they have the same logic.
Parameters
Numbered parameters
The numbered parameters include two types of parameters: Greek parameters and then non-Greek ones.
A maximum of two Greek parameters can be used: headword and genitive. Either can be omitted. Greek parameters must contain Greek characters, or in the case of the genitive, a hyphen (-
) to indicate that the genitive is unattested.
The headword can only be added in the first parameter if the page name contains ambiguous vowels – the monophthongs α, ι, υ (a, i, u) without macrons, breves, circumflexes, or iotas subscript (◌̄, ◌̆, ◌͂, ◌ͅ) – and the first parameter is identical to the page name when macrons or breves are removed. For example, {{grc-noun|ψῡχή|ψῡχῆς|f|first}}
is allowed in the entry for ψυχή (psukhḗ), but {{grc-noun|δῆμος|δήμου|m|second}}
in δῆμος (dêmos) will trigger a module error.
A maximum of two non-Greek parameters are allowed: gender and declension. These are described below.
This allows several possible variations:
- Declined nouns:
- Indeclinable nouns:
{{grc-noun|headword|gender}}
- For instance, in the entry for Ἰσραήλ (Israḗl),
{{grc-proper noun|Ἰσρᾱήλ|m}}
.
- For instance, in the entry for Ἰσραήλ (Israḗl),
{{grc-noun|gender}}
- For instance, in the entry for Ἰωσήφ (Iōsḗph),
{{grc-proper noun|m}}
- For instance, in the entry for Ἰωσήφ (Iōsḗph),
- Indeclinable nouns of unknown gender:
- in Ἁρμαγεδών (Harmagedṓn),
{{grc-proper noun}}
or{{grc-proper noun|?}}
- in Ἁρμαγεδών (Harmagedṓn),

The |suff=
parameter isn't needed and therefore has been removed. If the title begins in a hyphen (-
), the entry will automatically be placed in the category for Ancient Greek noun-forming suffixes instead of Ancient Greek nouns. For instance, in the entry for -ία (-ía), {{grc-noun|-ῐ́ᾱ|-ῐ́ᾱς|f|first}}
.
