I think this would work a bit better like this:

I think the first parameter should very seriously be considered for removal entirely, in deference to {{PAGENAME}}. --Connel MacKenzie 06:36, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

It's an excellent template, but I have a few thoughts on it. First of all, I agree that the first parameter should be removed entirely, otherwise, a year from now, people will wonder why the hell they're always putting in a blank first parameter. If we're going to change it, we should go all the way, even if it means me sitting in a dark room, going through all the entries by hand and taking out the first parameter, crying. Secondly, there are a few words which don't have (known) genders, perhaps some don't at all, I don't know for sure, but the gender needs to be an optional parameter as well with a "gender unknown" as the default. Finally, if there is no inflection, the word doesn't fall under any declension, so parameter 4 needs to be optional, with nothing as the default. The optional gender thing I can do, but there's already a pipe in parameter 4, and I don't know how to fix that. If someone can program a simple bot to go through all the pages and remove the first parameter, that would save me some time (and some crying) and would be immensely appreciated (also because this same thing will have to be done on the grc-noun template as well. Ok, I just tried it out on Ἀαρών, and it didn't seem to work. The new format doesn't seem to work at getting the pagename up with a blank first parameter. And if it's not declinable, can it still display a gender? Cuz it should. If someone else can get this to work, by all means try. It doesn't seem to disript any of the pages which already had it, so I think we're cool leaving it up. Cerealkiller13 07:38, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Ok, the new version is up and running, and I can't find any problems with it. Hopefully that means there aren't any. There is one minor issue, which isn't intolerable, but would be nice if it was fixed. For the indeclinable nouns, it works perfectly, you simply leave the first and third parameters blank (i.e. put in a couple extra pipes) and it does everything as it is supposed to. However, for the very few words with unknown gender, you can't leave the first three parameters blank, you have to specify the parameter numbers for the remaining two, e.g. {{grc-pnoun|4=Harmagedōn|5=Αρμαγεδων}} on Ἁρμαγεδών. If someone can figure out why this isn't working properly and fix it, bravo to them. If not, I still think this is the best solution. Cerealkiller13 23:30, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
