Usage

[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Samuel Taylor Coleridge's work Sybilline Leaves: A Collection of Poems (1st edition, 1817). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1=, |chapter=, or |poem=mandatory: the name of the poem quoted from.
Sybilline Leaves: A Collection of Poems
Parameter value Result First page number
Ancient Mariner or The Rime of the Ancient Mariner The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. In Seven Parts. (written 1797–1798; revised 1817) page 3
Night-scene The Night-scene: A Dramatic Fragment (1800?) page 136
Ode on the Departing Year Ode on the Departing Year (written 24–26 December 1796, published 31 December 1796) page 51
For help with adding other poems to the template, leave a message on the talk page or at "Wiktionary:Grease pit".
  • |part= or |stanza= – if the poem quoted from is divided into parts or stanzas, use this parameter to specify the part or stanza number.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11 or |pages=x–xi.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.
  • |line= or |lines= – the line number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of numbers, separate the first and last numbers of the range with an en dash, like this: |lines=10–11.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the work.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
