SOP: take (verb sense 14.1, 'undergo') + a + crap (Etymology 1, noun sense 5, 'act of defecation'). —Mahāgaja · talk 19:16, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

- Are you sure the learner won't interpret it as collecting faeces? — Dentonius 20:04, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- This sense of take is common, one can take a shit, take a break, take a bath, etc... Leasnam (talk) 20:07, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know, pal. I know language learners — not the super genius polyglots we have here ... ordinary people. Are you sure an ordinary learner wouldn't think it's "accept junk"? Or maybe, it's "accept disrespect"? Hypothetical learner: "Was it I don't take crap or I don't take a crap from nobody? Oh, English is so confused." — Dentonius 20:34, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

- American English. In Britain one can have a crap, if one wants to express it that way. DonnanZ (talk) 00:01, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Keep. It doesn't fall under meaning 14.1 (or any other meaning I saw). It wouldn't make sense to say "undergo/be subjected to a crap." In addition, the phrase doesn't work if we substitute the noun ("take an act of defecation," "take feces," etc.; "take a poop" is questionable; but compare "take a shit"). Lastly, because take has so many meanings, I'm inclined to let most of its set-phrasey collocations lie. (see also my vote to keep take responsibility). Imetsia (talk) 20:08, 20 December 2020 (UTC)- Delete. I didn't consider the similar "take a break/nap." Imetsia (talk) 19:06, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Delete. Per Leasnam, this sense of "take" seems common, with numerous possibilities. If it is not presently adequately covered at take then it should be. I have argued before, I think, to keep certain technically SoP "take" combinations because of the number of different senses there, but this one seems just too generic. - Delete per Leasnam. I could take a break, take a shower, take a nap, etc. too. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 18:55, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
- Abstain. What about take a shit? 2A02:2788:A4:205:29FF:D95E:382C:FD20 23:33, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
