You're right on both counts - I can't seem to find anyplace else where 本 is transcribed with an -ng. I wasn't aware about the Taishanese Vowel Shift or any of the resources you linked me to after I edited this entry, so I blindly took Stephen Li's transcription as representative of the Taicheng dialect.
