Further origin

With this selection in George Watt’s Dictionary of the economic products of India II p. 10 and knowledge of the origin of types of brazilwood I now see how this name بَقَّم (baqqam) came to the Near East, though not when, and I will not be able to write out all forms and make out whether it came from Sanskrit into the Dravidian languages or originally from Dravidian or even from Austronesian. I just mention this job, @Kutchkutch, Hk5183.

@Kutchkutch: Without looking, it is Dukhani (I had to find out once that this is what 19^th century sources spelt the) now spelt Deccani, Deccani. Fay Freak (talk) 10:24, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

@Fay Freak: That makes sense because patang-kí-lakri appears to be Hindustani پَتَنگ کِی لَکْڑِی (patang kī lakṛī) / पतंग की लकड़ी (pataṅg kī lakṛī), and Deccani is a variety of Hindustani. (There was a discussion about Deccani here: Category talk:Hindustani languages.) Also, Hindi बक्कम (bakkam) must be from Persian or Arabic, so Bengali বকম (bokom) and Odia ବକମ (bakama) are probably from Persian or Arabic as well. Kutchkutch (talk) 10:43, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
