@Vahagn Petrosyan: Thank you, but I'm not sure it works like that (with the i-type declension) in other cases. The book I use to learn Armenian specifically mentions possible instrumental and locative i-type cases of words like պատանի, մատանի and ուղի. --GareginRA (talk) 14:13, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

I looked at dozens of entries at Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:hy-noun-ու-ներ. For all of them the i-type instrumental and locative seem natural to me, a native speaker of Eastern Armenian. --Vahag (talk) 19:38, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

@Vahagn Petrosyan: Ok, then. Thank you for the contribution. I shall keep noting such issues if I come across them. By the way, my book only mentioned those three words for this exception as part of an undefined group, but stated the general rule to cut the ի. (Apart from one syllable words.) There were some other exceptions for the u-type declension, most of them widely known. It is a Soviet era book, so some rules may have changed.
