  • (Noord-Brabant) First attested as Strooijen Dorp in 1838-1857. Compound of strooien (made of straw) and dorp (village). Named for the thatched-roof huts that made up the initial settlement. Compare Stroobos, Stroodorp, Stroodorpe and Strooienstad.
