[edit]First attested as Strobus around 1660. Derived from strobos (“bale of straw”). Apparently named after a stack of straw used by canal labourers to shelter from rain. Alternatively, the toponym may refer to an old inn. Compare Stroodorp, Stroodorpe, Strooiendorp and Strooienstad.
