Last part from Old Norse hǫfn (“port, harbor, haven”), from Proto-Germanic *habanō, *habnō (“harbour, haven”), from Proto-Indo-European *kh₂póneh₂ or *kh₂pnéh₂, from the root *keh₂p- (“to take, seize, grasp”).
