[edit]Borrowed from French sarcophage, from Latin sarcophagus, from Ancient Greek σαρκοφάγος (sarkophágos, “coffin of limestone”, noun), from σαρκοφάγος (sarkophágos, “flesh-eating, carnivorous”), from σάρξ (sárx, “flesh, meat”) + -φάγος (-phágos).
