Maybe:
from Proto-Indo-European *kenk (compare Lithuanian kìnka ‘leg, thigh, knee-cap’, kenklė̃ ‘knee-cap’
- Those are totally different roots. How do you account for the discrepancies? —CodeCat 15:01, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Secondary meaning 'pedigree'
[edit]A few daughter languages exhibit secondary meaning “pedigree, lineage”, most likely akin to the root of *čeľadь (“children”) (with varying proposals for further origin, incl. Proto-Indo-European *(s)kʷel- (“to group, to assemble”), *kelH- (“to lift”)). I am adding it as a secondary meaning under the primary lemma, however, it may be appropriate to separate it under its own section. I'm leaving the decision to other members.
