@Mellohi! The Proto-Germanic formally derives from *h₁itís (as seen by the short vowel i- and the Verners law consonant -d-), in the same way as *burdiz < *bʰr̥tís ~ *bʰértis. I noted this, but maybe it could be done another way? It is of course interesting that the Sanskrit also reflects this form.

How secure is the derivation of *arbaidiz? I assume that it should be understood as a compound *arba-idiz < *h₃órbʰo-h₁itís ‘slave-work’. Might note that in its etymology. ᛙᛆᚱᛐᛁᚿᛌᛆᛌProto-NorsingAsk me anything 16:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Mårtensås Compound *arba-idiz is the one given by Orel ({{R:gem:HGE|page=22}}). {{R:ine:Weiss orbis}} also discusses *arbaidiz at length, with the compound theory being only one of many. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 18:34, 6 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
