[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *wēˀtrāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂weh₁-.
Cognate with Lithuanian vė́tra (“storm”), Latvian vētra (“storm”), Old Prussian wetro (“wind”), Latin ventus (“wind”), Sanskrit वाति (vāti, “to blow”).
