[edit]Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *śwístei, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwéy-né-t-ti ~ *ḱwi-n-t-énti, from *ḱweyt- (“to shine”). Akin to Lithuanian švìsti (“to shine”).
