[edit]Etymology
[edit](This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
Possibly an inchoative of *gręsti (“to approach, to step forwards”) + *-nǫti. Vasmer draws comparison with Latin aggredior (“to aggress”).
