[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *sjuwikas, *sjuwikis. Equivalent to *šiti (“to sew”) + *-ьcь. Cognate with Lithuanian siuvìkas, siuvikis (“tailor”), Old Prussian schuwikis (“tailor”).
