Reconstruction:Proto-Italic/skaiwos
Appearance
Proto-Italic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]An exact cognate can be found in Ancient Greek σκαιός (skaiós), but trying to identify a root is problematic. De Vaan's comparison to descendants of Proto-Indo-European *(s)ḱeh₃ih₂ (“shade”)[1] runs into the problem of having an incompatible root laryngeal (which De Vaan thinks was *h₂ instead of *h₃).
