[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ni-dréh₂, from *h₁ni- (“down”) + *dreh₂- (“to sleep”, deverbal noun suffix) + *-éh₂. Compare Sanskrit नि (ní) and द्रायति (drā́yati).
