[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *stéygʰeti, from *steygʰ- (“to walk, climb”). Cognate with Ancient Greek στείχω (steíkhō, “I go”) and Old Church Slavonic стигнѫ (stignǫ, “I come”).[1]
