[edit]From Pre-Germanic *keh₂péh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂po- (“land, garden”), from *keh₂p- (“to seize”). Related to Ancient Greek κῆπος (kêpos, “garden, orchard”) and possibly Albanian kopsht (“garden”).
