[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *dʰrebʰ- (“to grind; crush; kill”). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *drobìti (“to crush”), Lithuanian drė̃bti (“to strike”), and Latvian drêbt (“to beat”).[1]
