Reconstruction:Proto-Germanic/brējaną
Appearance
Proto-Germanic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Uncertain, through traditionally connected to Proto-Indo-European *bʰrewh₁- (“to boil, brew, seethe, cook”) and compared with Sanskrit भुरति (bhuráti, “to quiver, stir”), Ancient Greek πορφῡ́ρω (porphū́rō, “to heave, surge up”), Latin fretum (“strait; turmoil”),[1] ferveō (“to seethe, burn”). Said root has apparently been constructed in earlier times as *bʰrē- (“waft, breeze; haze”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
