From Proto-Indo-European *bʰowHs-o-s, from a root *bʰewHs- (to blow, inflate, swell) of apparent onomatopoeic origin, which Kroonen compares with Russian бу́хнуть (búxnutʹ, to swell up), Kashubian bucha (pride, haughtiness).[1]
