Reconstruction:Proto-Finnic/sumëda
Appearance
Proto-Finnic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From earlier *sumi + *-ëda, possibly borrowed from Proto-Germanic *stum- (whence Faroese stummur (“pitch-black”), Icelandic stum (“dust, rime, fog”)),[1] although it is uncertain whether the Proto-Germanic word even exists with a similar meaning, as opposed to merely *stummaz (“mute”).
