Unknown; one possibility is that it could be from Proto-Indo-European *dʰrewgʰ- (to deceive), with the voiceless -k- originating in a root noun *dʰréwgʰ-s (falsehood) (pronounced *dʰrewks, compare Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰrúkš).
