[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *bʰuǵ- (“goat, buck, ram”). Cognate with Proto-Germanic *bukkaz (“buck”), Old Armenian բուծ (buc, “lamb”), Persian بز (boz, “goat”), Avestan 𐬠𐬏𐬰𐬀 (būza, “ram”), Sanskrit बुख (bukha, “male goat”).
