From *r̥tah ("Asha; truth") from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hr̥tás (truth) (whence Avestan 𐬀𐬴𐬀 (aṣ̌a, truth)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂r̥-tós, from *h₂er- (to fit; fix; put together) + *sūrah ("strong"),[1][2] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćuHrás (strong), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱewh₁- (to be strong, to swell). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬏𐬭𐬀 (sūra), Middle Persian swl (sūr), Ancient Greek κύριος (kúrios).
