Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *gernaz. Supposing the existence of this term in Gothic requires the assumption that its derivates are indeed Gothic formations and not inheritances from Proto-Germanic. KΓΆbler lists the two derived adjectives as calques from Ancient Greek, suggesting the use of this word in Gothic. Parallel terms appear to exist in other Germanic languages for ππ°πΉπ·πΏπ²π°πΉππ½π΄πΉ (faihugairnei) however, which may suggest a common Germanic origin for ππ°πΉπ·πΏπ²π°πΉππ½π (faihugairns).
