[edit]From Middle High German mōnōt, mānōt m or n, from Old High German mānōd m, from Proto-West Germanic *mānōþ. See also Mond. Compare Old Saxon mānoth, Dutch maand, English month, Danish måned.

[edit]- The plural Monat is used when a number of months is specified, as in For drei Monat ― Three months ago. Otherwise, Monate is preferred, as in Die letst Monate ― The last months. Usage can vary between speakers.
