Possible Tone Sandhi Error

[edit]

@Wyang, Justinrleung, suzukaze-c: When it comes to the Jin language's tone sandhi, the module seems to work for reduplicated rising tone terms such as 往往 (von2 von2, “often”), but not for reduplicated level tone terms such as 翻身 (fan1 seng1, “a classical Chinese dance move”). I'm not sure how terms with reduplicated departing tone and terms with reduplicated light checked tone are affected. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 19:04, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Lo Ximiendo: First and foremost, I would suggest you stay away from adding pronunciations for compounds by inference of the characters unless you have a reliable source. Nobody here actually speaks the Taiyuan dialect, so it's hard to verify other than with what is published on these dialects (e.g. word dictionaries and vocabulary lists). As for 翻身, there is no reduplication involved (same character repeated), so there's no sandhi AFAIK. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:11, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: How about this: I make subpages, that are similar to Atitarev's subpage for Wu Chinese, except for Gan, Jin, Xiang and Sichuanese, which I infer from the section "Dialectal data" of the template {{zh-pron}}. You may make any corrections to what I input, if necessary. Deal? --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 19:35, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Lo Ximiendo: Sure, if you really want. No one here can actually confirm uncommon words though. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:41, 30 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Lo Ximiendo Per the above, please remove the unsourced dialectal readings you added (and move them to those pages). Wyang (talk) 09:24, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
(I know nothing about Jin. —suzukaze (tc) 20:19, 30 October 2017 (UTC))Reply

IPA

[edit]

I fixed the tone transcription to IPA. Only problem is that this might confuse tones 1 and 6 in tone sandhi. (That's because '11' and '1' are written the same in IPA. The doubled digit '11' isn't a phonetic transcription, just a way of avoiding confusion with 'tone #1'.) Might be we need to keep them as digits until after the sandhi rules are applied, then convert to IPA. kwami (talk) 01:58, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
