[edit]If of Celtic/Gaulish origin, probably from Proto-Celtic *eburos (“yew-tree”). However, if of Germanic origin, likely from Proto-Germanic *eburaz (“boar”); a semantic "contamination" between the two senses is not impossible.[1] More at Eburones.
