Sanskrit entries in the Brahmi script

Get them mass-deleted. A few editors are even linking them in etymologies. (@Octahedron80, Mahagaja) ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 16:49, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

Just change them into Devanagari. No delete, we will lose information. Sanskrit can be written in many scripts, and each script can have their pages. But Devanagari is the main entry for Sanskrit. --Octahedron80 (talk) 16:54, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

That's not the reason why it must be deleted. It doesn't mean it won't exist. Lots of languages can also be written in many scripts too (even they have no search result). --Octahedron80 (talk) 03:16, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

• @Inqilābī: For etymology sections, the idea of displaying the script of the page name and linking to the main entry in Devanagari started here: User_talk:Msasag#Eastern_Nagari_script_for_Sanskrit. Since then, this reasoning has been extended to several different scripts, so Brahmi is not alone in this regard. Are you requesting to stop this practice for all scripts, or just links to scripts that are not Devanagari? Kutchkutch (talk) 18:23, 16 August 2021 (UTC)

  @Kutchkutch: The display of non-canonical scripts should be decided on a case-by-case basis. For Bengali entries, it’s not good, as the Bengali orthography uses ব for both b & v; whilst Assamese has letters dedicated to both. Thus, for Assamese the display of the non-canonical script is fine, but for Bengali Devanagari should not be displayed. ·~ dictátor·mundꟾ 11:55, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

By the way sanskritdictionary.com attests almost all Sanskrit terms in Brahmi, just try https://sanskritdictionary.com/?iencoding=iast&q=akṣaṇa&lang=sans&action=Search&display=brahmi.   Well, Brahmi is the canonical script for our Prakrit entries; why are you comparing that with Sanskrit, for which Devanagari is already the canonical script?   To be precise, the self-styled dictator is pointing out that sanskritdictionary.com does not attest the Brahmi writings. If one has no more that Monier Williams to cause one to believe the existence of the Brahmi script word, one needs to be sure of the spelling of the Brahmi. --RichardW57 (talk) 12:02, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

• They are linked on them perhaps because it is less messy, if the page title is already Brahmi, for another Prakrit. I have not discerned any reason to delete Sanskrit Brahmi spellings, other than Inqilābī’s personal taste. Fay Freak (talk) 10:11, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
