Swedish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly derived from Old Swedish *bolmber (“large; expansive”). Compare with the verb bolma (“billow”). Earliest known individual form attested since 1689 as New Latin Bollmen Lacus (“Lake Bolmen”); but part of Old Swedish Bolmsø (“Bolmen island”) since 1293.[1]
See also the lakeside locality Odensjö (literally “Odin's Lake”), which is proposedly derived from a former name of lake Bolmen.[2]
