Shouldn't kangaroo words exclude those that have all letters consecutively, e.g., overwhelm and whelm?

Difficult to read

[edit]

I think this would be easier to read if the "joey words" were separated out, so rather than e.g. yearning we would just have yearning: yen. Equinox 23:00, 5 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Actually, some users might want to solve for joey word as puzzles. Keeping them "bold" and hidden inside, makes it easy to cut and paste to a text editor and lose the joey. This way, it won't be a dead-giveaway for word-game puzzle solvers. 74.211.225.34
Other users might want to be able to read the words :) Equinox 20:38, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
That would also allow us to easily link to the terms. What about having both? (yearning: yearning, yen)? — Ungoliant (Falai) 20:39, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
If we have "yearning, yen", the cutting-and-pasting can't be done (unless one cuts-and-pastes each word individually, at which point one could just as well cut-and-paste only the first word of the pair). I support splitting the parent and joey words. - -sche (discuss) 20:41, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we could do it in a table, with a column for the entire word (sub-bolded) and columns for the sub-word(s). Then at least people could easily paste it into a spreadsheet and cut out the unwanted columns. Equinox 20:43, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Or do what I do; ignore it every time it appears in the recent changes. We have enough troubles with the main namespace before we start tackling appendices too. Mglovesfun (talk) 20:49, 6 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I support putting a table with the joey word hidden by default. The user has to click a "show" button to unhide the joey. Wikipedia has elaborate mechanisms for hidding/showing columns in a table. I don't know about Wiktionary Powerslide (talk)
It is actually easy to read the joey words if you zoom-in on your browser. Internet Explorer and Google chrome have controls that allow you to enlarge the webpage. I can easily spot bolded italics when zoomed at 200% 108.66.129.231 18:52, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
If a page requires manual zooming to be read, then it is clearly poorly designed! Equinox 19:00, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well, it's a compromise between readability and obscurity. We want to expose enough of the joey word so that one can find it when required, but also prevent it from being a dead-giveaway :) 108.66.129.231 19:14, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
I created a template for this ({{kword}}). For example * {{kword|prematurely|early||pr|e|m|a|tu|r|e|ly}} produces:
Should it be used? — Ungoliant (Falai) 18:59, 8 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
