Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₃orǵʰ-o-s, from *h₃erǵʰ- (to copulate; ardent). Cognate with Lithuanian eržùs, aržùs (ardent, voluptuous, stubborn), Russian ёрзать (jórzatʹ, to fidget), Hittite [script needed] (arkari, to mount, cover, copulate).[1]
