Structure of the French Republican Calendar.

Months

Each year was divided into 12 months of 30 days each, plus a group of 5 or 6 additional days, the Sansculottides, at the end of the year, starting on September 17 or 18 and lasting until the beginning of Vendémiaire.

• Autumn:
  • Vendémiaire (from Latin vīndēmia, “grape harvest”), starting on September 22, 23 or 24.
  • Brumaire (from French brume, “fog”), starting on October 22, 23 or 24.
  • Frimaire (from French frimas, “frost”), starting on November 21, 22 or 23.
• Winter:
  • Nivôse (from Latin nivōsus, “snowy”), starting on December 21, 22 or 23.
  • Pluviôse (from Latin pluviōsus, “rainy”), starting on January 20, 21 or 22.
  • Ventôse (from Latin ventōsus, “windy”), starting on February 19, 20 or 21.
• Spring:
  • Germinal (from Latin germen, “sprout”), starting on March 21 or 22.
  • Floréal (from Latin flōreus, “flowery”), starting on April 20 or 21.
  • Prairial (from French prairie, “pasture”), starting on May 20 or 21.
• Summer:
  • Messidor (from Latin messis, “harvest”), starting on June 19 or 20.
  • Thermidor (from Ancient Greek θερμή (thermḗ), “heat”), starting on July 19 or 20.
  • Fructidor (from Latin fructus, “fruit”), starting on August 18 or 19.

Days

Each month was divided into three decades, or ten-day weeks, each made up by the following days:

5. quintidi
6. sextidi
7. septidi
8. octidi
9. nonidi
10. décadi
