Etymology

Cognate with Lycian [script needed] (tbiplẽ, twice (?)), [script needed] (trpplẽ, thrice (?)). According to Kloekhorst, from Proto-Indo-European *pel-: compare Ancient Greek δῐπλός (diplós, double), Latin dūplus (double), Old High German zwifalt (twice).
