[edit]From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀚𑀸𑀫𑀸𑀉𑀅 (jāmāua) (with Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-)), from Sanskrit 𑘕𑘰𑘦𑘰𑘝𑘵 (jā́mātṛ). Compare Old Gujarati जमाई (jamāī), Old Punjabi ਜਵਾਈ (javāī).
