[edit]From Sanskrit हिरण्य (híraṇya), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *źʰr̥Hanyam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ȷ́ʰr̥Hanyam (“gold”), from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰl̥h₃-en-yo-m, from *ǵʰelh₃- (“yellow, golden”). Cognate with Pali hirañña.
