From early Middle Indo-Aryan *saṭhila, from Old Indo-Aryan *śṛthilá-, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥th₂-ró-s, from *ḱreth₂-. Compare 𑀲𑀺𑀠𑀺𑀮 (siḍhila), Sanskrit शिथिर (śithirá), शिथिल (śithilá), Pali saṭhila.
