[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ȫgsiŕ, equivalent to 𐽰𐽳𐽶𐽵 (ög, “mother, mind”) + -𐽻𐽳𐽴 (-süz, “-less”). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰇𐰏𐰾𐰔 (ögsüz), Turkish öksüz, Bashkir үкһеҙ (ükheź), Tuvan өскүс (ösküs).
Sense 1 and 2 are from different homophonic Proto-Turkic roots, using the same suffixation.
