[edit]From 𐱃𐰺𐰃𐰴 (tarïq-, “to be uneasy, to be difficult”) + 𐰨 (-ïnč) from 𐱃𐰺 (tar, “narrow”) itself inherited from Proto-Turkic *tār (“narrow”). Cognate with Turkish dar (“narrow”), Uzbek tor, Bashkir тар (tar), Tuvan тар (tar).
