From Proto-Germanic *feΓΎurfalΓΎaz, equivalent to π†πŒΉπŒ³πŒΏπ‚- (fidur-, β€œfour”) +‎ -π†πŒ°πŒ»πŒΈπƒ (-falΓΎs). Close in formation to Koine Greek τΡτραπλοῦς (tetraploΓ»s), which it translates.
