ππΉπ³πΏπππ°π²πΉπ½πΎπ°
Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From ππΉπ³πΏπ- (fidur-) + the stem of ππ°π²πΉπ½ (ragin) + a suffix, either -π΄πΉπ (-eis) (compare ππ°π²πΉπ½π΄πΉπ (ragineis)) or -πΉ (-i). Calque of Koine Greek ΟΞ΅ΟΟΞ¬ΟΟΞ·Ο (tetrΓ‘rkhΔs, βtetrarchβ) or Koine Greek ΟΞ΅ΟΟΞ±ΟΟΞ―αΎ± (tetrarkhΓΔ, βtetrarchyβ). The choice between these two suffixes, which would determine the lemma (nominative singular) form of the word, depend on whether one interprets this word as meaning "tetrach" (in which case -eis is likely the correct suffix) or "tetrachate" (in which case -i is the suffix). The word translates the participle ΟΞ΅ΟΟΞ±Ξ±ΟΟΞΏαΏ¦Ξ½ΟΞΏΟ (tetraarkhoΓ»ntos, βbeing tetrarchβ).
