Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *wrฤรพuz (โherdโ). Cognate to Old English wrวฃรพ (โbandโ) and Old Danish vrฤth (โherd of swineโ). The -i- in the Gothic descendant (which is attested only once, possibly indicating a spelling error) is unexpected; one would expect a Gothic form *๐ ๐๐ด๐ธ๐ฟ๐ (*wrฤรพus) based on its cognates.
