Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *slฤpanฤ (โto sleepโ), from Proto-Indo-European *slab-, *slap- (โto be weak, limp, languidโ).
Verb
[edit]๐๐ป๐ด๐๐ฐ๐ฝ โข (slฤpan)
- to sleep
Conjugation
[edit]It is likely Verner alteration was preserved at least somewhat in the past tense, as multiple forms of the derived verb ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ป๐ด๐๐ฐ๐ฝ (gaslฤpan) show it. Perhaps the alteration was still present in Wulfila's time and diminished or removed by later copyists.
